In an ocean of asphalt, concrete and brick the Bowling Green Park sits like an oasis of green amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life...
Here families can relax, toddlers play, children ride their bikes or play football; the teenagers and students shoot a few hoops.
It may not look much from the outside but to the local community it is a special place, every day we hear how our green spaces are to be preserved and this is the aim of the Bowling Green Community Group.
Supported by Falmouth Town Council the group has embarked upon an ambitious campaign of improvements, last year saw the replacement of the swings, this year the aim is to completely renovate the secure toddlers Play Area, but it’s not just about fund raising, over the last couple of years the Bowly has hosted several events, including the highly successful ‘Funday’ and ‘Winter Warmer’ events.

The Bowly is the only green ‘park’ in this area of the town and as such is much used throughout the year, we have yet to see snowmen built this year but photographs available to view on the our web site, show how much fun the local youngsters had in the snow last year. Secured on all four sides by fencing the park is open from dawn to dusk daily, every day and is used every day.
In the afternoon summer sun students can be seen catching up on course work as school children, many still in uniform having come straight from school, play animatedly around them, parents relax and chat on the seating within the park, other children are learning to ride their bikes on the soft grass rather than the hard asphalt of the pavement, no worries about speeding traffic inside the Bowly.
Sounds idyllic, it is, the Bowly can be all things to all people, to a student living in a bedsit or sharing a flat it is an open space to sit and relax, to a child it can be the jungle, Wembley, Twickenham, wherever his imagination takes him, to a parent it is a safe haven, with no traffic for the ball to run into, it is the ‘back garden’ many local residents do not have.
The ‘Visual Indicator’ located at the Bowly entrance illustrates our fund raising target for the first part of 2007, our target is to raise £20,000 to continue the improvements, if you think you can help in any way please contact the group secretary Mick Stevens on 01326 317410 or email info@falmouthbowly.org.uk
